Ginger came home on Saturday, May 8th, 1999. and life hasn't been the same since! Ginger loves chewing on just about EVERYTHING. In her first year, she ate a few dozen rawhide bones, several pairs of socks, 10 pieces of underwear, a pair of pants, a frisbee, several hankies, several towels, most of the flowers in the backyard, and the living room couch. When she's wasn't eating, she's playing with her squeaky ball or trying to play tug-o-war.
After playing in the snow in February 2000 just after our Kona Honeymoon, Ginger started limping really bad. We took her to the vet, and found out the bad news: she has hip displasia. The good news is that hip displasia is no longer a terminal condition - just expensive. Dr. Pete found a great orthopedic vet from Iowa State, and Ginger had a "TPO" (Triple Pelvic Ostonomy) surgery on her bad hip on July 3, and then on her other hip on September 1. She wasn't very happy the first week or so after each surgery, but she's recovering nicely. Her formerly bad hip went from only 10% in the socket to almost 75% after a month of rehabilitation. We were MUCH happier playing in the snow the next winterr!!!
