A day in Honolulu

We visited the USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor. A very touching memorial to those that died 60 years earlier in the last attack on America (before 9/11). Because of the effects of 9/11, it was impossible to fly to Kona in one day; instead requiring us to spend a night in Honolulu.

Here is one of the turrets of the USS Arizona sticking out of the water. If you look closely, you can still see drops of oil and fuel rising from the Arizona's tanks.

After visiting Pearl Harbor, we drove down to Waikiki Beach. While a great beach, it certainly is DIFFERENT from every other Hawaiian beach we've visited. Much like Fort Lauderdale, it's surrounded by fancy hotels, restaurants, and shops. Except it's MUCH more expensive. Nothing like spending $6 at Burger King for a combo meal for a quick lunch before returning to the airport and the flight to Kona!
