After a week at Kona Village on the Big Island of Hawai'i, we then spent 6 days on the island of Kauai. When we got to Kauai, our first surprise was at the car rental counter; we got a free upgrade to a red Mustang convertable. Guess who was pretty excited about this! |
![]() While on Kauai, we met up with Kelli's cousin Colleen, who loves to visit Kauai. We did a lot of sightseeing with her. Although Colleen is a frequent traveler to Kauai, we ended up showing her a lot of sights from the guidebook we bought. "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" is definitely worth the money if you are planning to visit. |
![]() ![]() At Poipu, along the south coast of Kauai, are the lithified cliffs of Makawehi. Great views along the coast, but watch for the weather. Although it was sunny most of the time along this hour long hike, two rainshowers hit us along the way and drenched us! |
![]() One of the treats from our first trip to Hawai'i was our discovery of guava nectar. YUM! So when we came across the Guava Kai plantation, we had to stop and see a guava farm. Guava's are better for juice than for eating. |
![]() "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" says that Queens Bath is a wonderful place to take a dip. Maybe in summertime when the ocean swells are much calmer, but not in February! |
![]() The Na Pali coast on the northwest side of Kauai is spectacular, but really inaccessible. About 20 miles long, there are no roads along this stretch of coast line, which consists mainly of high cliffs. Some people hike it, while others explore it by boat or helicopter. Here is the northern end of the Na Pali coast. |
![]() "Polihale Beach on the west side of Kauai is the most western part of the United States. It is at the other end of the Na Pali coast. It's a beautiful beach, but barely accessible to a car. It's a good thing that Mustang was a rental! |
