One last day in Hilo

Here Kelli stands next to a "lava tree". This is when lava flows around a tree and immediately cools and hardens by transferring it's heat to the tree (which ignites). The lava may then flow away, leaving a cast of the tree.

We also stopped at the Orchid garden between Hilo and Volcano.

These were taken at Akaka Falls State Park, northwest of Hilo.

Rainbow Falls in Hilo. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and rainy when we arrived, so there wasn't any rainbow to see. :-(

Unfortunately, we also got to see this picture of a tourist creating his own waterfall. Apparantly, he didn't see the restroom 100 feet away.
