Our honeymoon trip to the Big Island of Hawai'i was an unforgettable 12 days. We chose the Big Island because of the Kona Village Resort. We spent the first 6 days at Kona Village relaxing and enjoying ourselves. We then spent the next 6 days touring the island. Originally we thought this would be a "trip of a lifetime" that justified the time and the expense; however, we had such a wonderful time, we can't wait to go back.
On the right, you will see our names in white lava. All along the Kona coast, people use white lava as grafitti on top of the black lava. We just couldn't resist the temptation to put our names on an isolated strech of lava up the coast from Kona Village. We figure that this probably lasted only a few days before someone else rearranged the rocks with their names.
We found one book to be extremely valuable in planning our Big Island vacation. "Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed" by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman (published by Wizard Publications) was full of suggestions as to things to see/do and things to avoid. Many others swear by this book as well, so if you are thinking about going to the Big Island, buy this book FIRST!
