Touring the Big Island

Driving around the Big Island, you can see lots of scenic sites. This is the Pololu Valley on the north side of the Big Island in Kohala.

To get down to the Pololu Valley, you must hike down more than 500 feet down to reach sea level. Here we stop for the obligatory tourist picture as we head down the trail.

Here we are on the overlook of the Waipi'o valley. Kevin Costner filmed part of Waterworld here. Waipi'o is only accessible by a steep 25% grade road. As such, it's one of the more isolated regions of the Big Island.
